Stitch Markers: an Extension of Ourselves

I was getting my Etsy shop set back up this weekend, and it got me thinking about my stitch marker collection.

So many times I have purchased stitch markers, not so much for functionality, but to make a statement about myself – what I like, what I think, how I feel. And for all of us I think that is true of many of the tools of our trade; stitch markers, needle minders, project bags, pins/buttons, etc.

A *small* sample of my stitch marker collection.

When I visited DFW Fiber Fest a couple of weeks ago, one of their ideas was the stitch marker swap, where vendors and patrons brought them to trade with each other – no strings attached. It was a fantastic way to interact with each other, whether or not you purchased anything, and it really got some creative juices flowing!

So as a yarn enthusiast, do you prefer your stitch markers to be functional, or fun, or both? I’d love to hear from you and see some of your collections!

I like my stitch markers to be fun! I’m just starting my collection and I’ve started making my own too. I love experimenting. It’s all good!
